Medal The House of Dona Gracia, Tiberias Medal The House of Dona Gracia, Tiberias "The House of Dona Gracia, Tiberias"

Bronze
Diameter 59 mm

This medal commemorates the legacy of Dona Gracia Mendes Nasi (1510–1569), a prominent Jewish leader, philanthropist, and one of the wealthiest women of the Renaissance.

Dona Gracia is often called a "pre-modern Zionist" for leasing Tiberias from the Ottoman Sultan to establish an autonomous Jewish settlement centuries before the modern movement.
She used her vast wealth and shipping fleet to organize an underground network that saved thousands of Jews (Conversos) from persecution.
Today, the House of Dona Gracia in Tiberias serves as both a hotel and a museum dedicated to her life and the culture of the 16th-century Jewish world.
